Gary Reed’s music is an intriguing mix of fingerstyle guitar and songs that tell tales of love, loss and life in the tradition of JJ Cale, Mark Knophler and Neil Young. He brings fresh interpretation of classic Americana Singer Songwriter compositions giving them new life a meaning to audiences.

Reed was a regular player at New York’s Bitter End, Folk City, Kenny’s Castaway and Max’s Kansas City during the ‘60s and ‘70s. Moving to San Francisco in the 70’s he become heavily influenced by the San Francisco acoustic-fingerstyle music scene, ala Hot Tuna and the Dave Grisman Quintet. He has opened for some great performers such as: Billy Joel, Randy Newman, Jerry Jeff Walker and Joe Walsh.

Influenced by great guitar players from the early blues artist (Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Blake) to next generation players as Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, and Doc Watson to current players Leo Kottke, Tommy Emmanuel, Michael Hedges and many others. Reed has incorporated these styles into unique original songs and interesting arrangements of cover tunes.

Currently, Gary is active again performing at clubs and festivals in the New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania area. His repertoire includes great solo fingerstyle guitar arrangements, progressive song arrangements and original music. He was honored to be a featured/main stage performer at the 2001 Chet Atkins Society in Nashville. Also, he was a guest performer at the New Jersey Guitar Show alongside of Les Paul, George Benson and other premier NJ guitarists.

Gary continues to write and arrange new music and has recordings featuring expansive vocal arrangements and backing musicians.
